Katurah Morrish

theatre that tells urgent stories in playful ways

About

I'm a theatre-maker, actor, writer and facilitator from South London. I love work that tells serious stories as playfully and inventively as possible. I'm interested in things that can shift perspectives and frequently find myself impatiently asking: why not change now?

I trained at The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and studied Education at the University of Cambridge. I'm Assistant Youth Director at Group 64 Theatre for Young People, a 2021 commissioned artist with Upstart Theatre, London, and a member of the performance art collective thewonderful.

The Learning Lottery
DARE Festival 5: Upstart Theatre

I was thrilled to have been selected as one of six commissioned artists by Upstart Theatre, London, to create my new research driven playable show 'The Learning Lottery' that puts audiences in the black lace-ups of some of UK teenagers and gives them one simple goal: do well at school.
'The Learning Lottery' premiered at DARE festival 5 in February 2021 in association with Shoreditch Town Hall.
The show is currently in R&D for a bigger and bolder iteration later in the year.

Seagull: Ned Caderni

I play Chloe in Ned Caderni’s debut film Seagull which has recently been released in the UK having picked up nominations and awards across the festival circuit in New York, Berlin, Milan, LA, Prague, Munich, Montreal and many more!

The Pied Piper of Covid: Rebecca Abrams

Novelist and literary critic Rebecca Abrams recently released a dramatisation of her poem play The Pied Piper of Covid, on which I was lucky enough to voice the narrator. This was a really fun recording session and the piece is a wonderfully clever take on the Browning original, re-imagined for Covid era Britain.
